Maghara (meaning 'the cave') was an Armenian village. It was left vacant when the Armenian community left, but the ruins of the Armenian church remain under the village's namesake cave. It was resettled and built as a Syriac Orthodox village in 2005-2006, according to Father Yousif of the nearby monastery.
