Mestaufi Neighborhood is named after Ibn al-Mestaufi, whose colossal statue once adorned the citadel's main gate. As the earliest modern area in the city, it is rich with late-20th century architecture and many firsts for Erbil: the first tall building; the first cinema; and so forth.
