BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) — A 32-hour curfew was declared in Iraq Thursday as 34,000 government officials and student volunteers began a census in preparation for parliamentary elections later this year.It was the first population count in Iraq since 1957.
Unofficial reports said Iraq’s borders with Turkey, Iran, Syria and Kuwait had been closed until the census ends.
