Hamam • حمام

The hamam was historically heated with hand-collected wood. Bathing was communal, and often just once a week on Fridays before prayer. There is a legend that the hamam was a Jewish synagogue, due to the 'star of David' over the door. However, this was a very common Ottoman symbol used in Islamic architecture and likely unrelated.
