Fear of Draft Law Delays Iraq Census
Men Who Would Be Liable to Service Hide, Parents Conceal Boys.
Bagdad, Dec. 10 (INS) — Fear of the passage of the proposed conscription law is interfering with the census which the Government of Iraq is trying unsuccessfully to take.
The proposed military service law has nearly ruptured relations between the British Mandatory authorities and the Iraq Government. Although it has been repeatedly declared in England that the proposed measure did not concern the British, it is well known that the Mandatory Power would like to see it established. Native rulers are divided over the question.
