National Monument (Kirkuk)
Formerly a monument emblazoned with the image of Saddam Hussein, it has been converted to a monument for a unified Iraq. A close look shows various symbols of Iraqi heritage and geography. However, it has seen better days.
The monument faces Kirkuk's first world-class overpass which was completed at a cost of millions of dollars. The overpass, and its general pointlessness in location and design, has come to symbolise poor allocation funds after 2003.
