Khanaqa neighbourhood • گەرەکی خانەقا • خي خانقة

Khanaqa is the name for a building where Sufis gather. There is an old, vacant, ruined neighbourhood associated apocryphally with the expelled Jewish population.

At that place, there is some modern (perhaps spiteful) graffiti about Jews and Israel. However, the urban lore about Jews has no firm evidence. Maybe some of the neighbourhood was indeed predominantly Jewish, or more likely this was a later and totally incorrect association. After all, the old neighborhood is old and crumbled (thus prone to once upon a time urban legends) and its name calls to mind (but is not at all related to) the חנכה Chanukah holiday.
