Emmeline Pankhurst

Known as an activist for women’s rights, Emmeline founded the Women’s Social and Political Union in 1903, whose members—known as suffragettes—fought to enfranchise women where she was born in the UK in 1858. Imprisoned many times for agitating aggressive for women’s suffrage, she died in 1928, shortly before women were granted the right to vote in the United Kingdom.
