There is a palace here atop a hill called Serîreş. It was commissioned by Saddam Hussein, but now President Massoud Barzani lives there.

In company of a Kurdish guide I passed in two and a half days from Erbil over the Pirmam mountain, which lies to the north of the town; it is a desert tract of land, full of cavities and hollows inhabited by robbers.
