Tarana Burke

Tarana, born in New York in 1973 is a civil rights activist who overcame childhood rape and has emerged as a fighter against sexual abuse, founding the #MeToo movement that has transformed global dialogues about sexual harassment and assault. Tarana, along with other prominent rights activists, was dubbed by Time magazine as “the silence breakers”, as well as Time Person of the Year in 2017. She is currently the senior director at Girls for Gender Equality in Brooklyn, New York.
