Chopy Fatah

Born in Kirkuk in 1983, Kurdish singer Chopy’s family later immigrated to the Netherlands when she was five years old. Initially joining a choir, she later studied music at the Kurdish Music Academy in Germany which kick-started her music career. Singing in both dialects of Kurdish (Sorani and Kurmanji) as well as English, she has released five Kurdish albums and three English albums.

Chopy became the cultural ambassador of Asia Cell in 2008 in Iraq and works towards peace and human rights in north Kurdistan (Turkey), performing several free concerts there to promote peace. She was also the first singer to perform in her hometown of Kirkuk after the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003. In 2013, Chope was chosen to hold the Kurdistan flag during the One World Summit in South Africa, a first at the event with the flag hoisted alongside 190 other countries in attendance.
