Berivan Aslan • بێریڤان ئهسلان
Born 1981 in Konya, Berivan Aslan has risen through her research, accolades, and community efforts to emerge as a Kurdish-Austrian MP in Austria with the Green Party. Berivan was born in Turkey as in 1981. After being raised and studying in Turkey, she immigrated to Austria. She is a political scientist and currently is Deputy President of the European Center for Kurdish Studies.
In 2016 she advocated for Kurds, Armenians and Aramaeans living in Austria who had been forcibly renamed in their former homeland to legally change their names. She took on the name Berivan, meaning “mountain flower” although her passport still has her given name in Turkey Aygul which means “moon rose.” Follow her at https://twitter.com/berivan_aslan_
