Sally Ride

Born in Los Angeles, California on May 26, 1951, Sally was the first American woman to go to space in 1983 and still remains the youngest person ever to travel to space. She was also an engineer and physicist besides her role as an astronaut. Sally was the only person to participate in the investigation of the Challenger and Columbia space shuttle disasters. She died on July 23, 2012 of pancreatic cancer.
