Shekh Shems' principal associated phenomena is the sun, which has high importance in the Ezidi religion and makes him and his shrine one of the most important at Lalish — perhaps only second to the grand temple itself.

Inside the shrine are some votive lamps and the usual, draped sarcophagus. Unusually, to the left is a smaller chamber called 'مزار سخي الجن' which translates to the Shrine of the Jinn.
