Church of Saint Mary (Akre) • كنيسهی مار ماریام • (كنيسة القديس ماري (عقرة
This old Chaldean Church oversaw a bustling Christian town, but now the Christians in Akre have been almost totally displaced.
The church is now vacant, but just beneath it is a beautiful old door with weathered but beautiful inscriptions and ornamentation.
It is said that there was once a Jewish cemetery adjacent to the church, but there are no obvious signs.
Saint Mary Church (Knesa Mar Mariam) is an old Chaldean church, currently not in use.
The empty building is kept well-secured from intruders, but is seemingly vacant. In early 2015 there were rumors that refugees have been allowed to live in its premises, the refugees mostly being Christians from Mosul.
