Anne Zernike

Born on April 30, 1887 in Amsterdam, Anne was a liberal theologian and the first female ordained minister in the Netherlands. At the time, she supported the Mennonites as they were the only religious group to allow women ministers at the time. However, a majority of her career was spent with the Dutch Protestant Association.

Later in 1918, she received a doctorate in Divinity from the University of Amsterdam after having advocated for several years in The Hague for art, literature, poetry and painting along with exploring Christian Socialism, Taoism and theosophy. Anne also formed the Liberal Christian Youth Centre welcoming all Christian sects in 1929. She died on March 6, 1972.
