Nadine Labaki
Nadine is a Lebanese actress and film director. She began her career by working with the Lebanese talent show Studio El Fan from 1990 through the 2000s where she won a prize directing several music videos. Nadine studied audiovisual studies at St. Joseph University in Beirut in 1997. Different from other directors, Nadine studied in her home country rather than abroad.
In the late 1990’s she became more popular in the Arab world for directing music videos for famous singers such as Lebanon-born Nancy Ajram. As a film director, several of her films were screened at film festivals around the world including the Toronto Film Festival, Stockholm Film Festival, and Cannes, winning several awards. Nadine was also the first Arab female to win an Oscar for Best Foreign Language film.
