Tu Youyou

Born in 1930, Tu is a pharmaceutical chemist and educator in China. She discovered medications used to treat malaria which saved millions of lives in across Asia, Africa, and the Americas. She was the first woman in China to receive the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine and the only Chinese person to receive any Nobel prizes. She is regarded as a symbol of contemporary China's global excellence.
