Monument to Ahmad Khani

This monument to Kurdish poet Ahmad Khani (1651-1707) sits at the entrance to one of Kurdish neighbourhood Rahimawa. There was a mish-mash of various Kurdistan flags adorning it prior to Kirkuk's return to Iraq control, when all flags were removed.

The neighbourhood has traditionally been KDP, in contradistiction to Kirkuk's overall PUK-affiliated Kurdish population. Taxis arriving from Erbil (controlled by the KDP) would sometimes go no further than Rahimawa during violence in Kirkuk in 2003-2010.
