Ahmed Chalabi house • بيت احمد جلبي

This modern reconstruction of a late Ottoman home features a lovely portico and use of grey Mosul marble.

The Ahmed Chalabi House is a modern reconstruction of a late-Ottoman-period mansion, although the Mosul alabaster arcade and window and door surrounds are reused from the original building. The closing wing on the southwest was not reconstructed. The whole building is raised over a semi-basement, which now interconnects, although an old plan shows it as partitioned, with six separate entrances from the courtyard. The rooms on the main floor are vaulted and have different styles of niches derived from different periods of Citadel architecture. A four-bay portico supported on a Mosul alabaster arcade faces the courtyard.
