Shirin Ebadi • شيرين عبادى‎

Born in Iran in 1947, Shirin was a lawyer and the first Iranian and first Muslim to receive the Nobel Peace Prize in 2003 for her activism to protect human rights, especially for women, children and refugees. Shirin was forced into exile in the UK due to an increase of persecution of Iranian citizens who criticize the current regime and has lived there since 2009. Forbes magazine listed her as one of the “100 most powerful women in the world” in 2004. She is also recognized as one of the “100 most influential women of all time” for her activism work.
